VIDEO & LINKS:

There are hundreds of ways of incorporating coconut oil into a healthy diet to boost memory and cognition. Start with these 20 ideas.

As a cooking oil, replace polyunsaturated oils, "vegetable oils" such as corn and soy, with coconut oil. Coconut oil should be your main cooking oil, as it is heat stable, and will not become toxic in uses that require high heat.

  1. I just add coconut oil to everything.... Yes, I spread it on my toast, put spoon into my soups, use it on my skin, and even on my kitchen wooden utensils and cutting boards to protect them from wearing out.
    Go Coconut Oil!!!

  2. What is the optimal daily dose? A tablespoon has 14 grams of fat.
How does it work for someone who needs to lose weight and burn fat?

  3. 14g*9cals=126 cals. If concerned, merely "lose" those calories in something you don't need anyway, like starchy carbohydrates, 2-3 slices of bread is about that much in cals.

    Simple math.

    1. I wouldn't worry about the extra calories from the addition of coconut oil. Fat is much more satisfying than carbs so you'll have less appetite and will automatically eat less. That was my experience, anway.

  4. Some people recommend starting with a teaspoon and slowly working your way up to 3 tablespoons in the food of each meal. Check out the following video on this site for details:

  5. Does the oil have the taste of coconut? Can eating other coconut foods/supplements other than oil have the same desired effect?

  6. Some brands have strong coconut flavor and some eliminate it almost entirely, with many falling somewhere in-between. If you check out the customer reviews on Amazon or other such sites, you can see from the user feedback the subtle taste differences between brands. It is the MCTs in coconut that provide the brain boost, and the oil is the part richest in MCTs.

    1. A great article explaining MCT's on this site is titled, "Taking Axona, MCT Oil or Coconut Oil for Alzheimer's" and is available under the "Coconut Oil" topic in the "Pick a Topic" box in the right column, or at the following link:

  8. ACCORDING THE REFERENCE ARTICLE BELLOW , ACETYL-L-CARNITINE LOOKS TO HAS SYNERGISTIC EFFECTS WITH MEDIUM-CHAIN TRIGLYCERIDES (fatty acids) AS THE EXTRA VIRGIN COCONUT OIL, etc.,INCREASING THE BRAIN ENERGY and the energy to the whole body.
BUT ONLY IN VERY SMALL DOSES OF BOTH SUPPLEMENTS , AND ONLY UNDER PHYSICIAN PRESCRIPTION AND SUPERVISION.
Based in article : Carnitine Supplementation and Ketogenesis by Small-For-Date Neonates on Medium- and Long-Chain Fatty Acid Formulae , published in the Journal Bology of Neonate , 2000 ,authors Labadaridis J ,as we can read that :
" Carnitine is a key molecule in energy production from various substrates."
"Although it is generally believed that it plays no role in the metabolism of medium-chain triglycerides, quite a few data exist to the contrary. In the present study we investigated the effect of carnitine on ketogenesis in small-for-date neonates fed formulae of equal caloric value and fat content that was predominantly long-chain triglycerides or medium-chain triglycerides (46% of total fat).According to our results there was a statistically significant interaction between carnitine and the chain length of the administered fat with respect to ketone production.Increased ketogenesis was only shown by the neonates receiving medium-chain triglycerides and carnitine. Our results provide further evidence for the involvement of carnitine in medium-chain triglyceride metabolism."
