In another words:
ReplyDeleteIt is good to knows that the Alzheimer Association is supporting research with extra virgin coconut oil , that works as an brain energy improver, once is an alternative fuel to the neurons and mitochondrial enhancers.
I hope that the researchers develops synthetic drugs , with the same mechanisms of action of the extra virgin coconut oil , but in pills or tablets, with a higher effectiviness .
It is great that Alzheimer research is looking into natural ways to help slow down the dementia of Alzheimer. However, does it look at the various types of dementia also. Dementia's such as Vascular, Lew Body or Frontal Temporal Lobe not to mention the many other forms of dementia.
ReplyDeleteCoconut oil for Alzheimer's is based on the well-researched benefits of ketone-rich diets. Benefits have been demonstrated in studies on:
DeleteAlzheimer's disease
Parkinson's disease
Traumatic brain injury
Stroke (Vascular dementia)
Huntington's Disease
Lewy Body Dementia
Read "The Coconut-Oil-Dementia Diet" for details and study references.
What you say doesn't gibe with what is said in this video by the Alzheimer's Society which emphasis the lack of scientific evidence for claims like this.
DeleteHere is how it does gibe. This even-handed facts-oriented video points out the 2 sides of the coin: on the one hand, there has been little scientific proof based on studies and trials about the direct effect of coconut oil on Alzheimer's. Unlike Gingko Biloba, whose claims of helping dementia were proved to be false, we simply do not know if coconut oil's claims are true or false. On the other hand, as mentioned in my prior post, there is a lot of proof that ketone-rich diets / ketogenic diets do help. That is what has drawn all this attention to coconut oil and dementia. Based on these aforementioned studies, coconut oil ought to do something positive. The challenge researchers now face is nailing down exactly how much is the positive benefit and whether it is worth the effort.
DeleteWhat i do know is the medical community needs to get a move on researching what type of dementia the coconut oil it helps.Dementia diagnosis numbers are staggering, and only expected to increase by the millions!
ReplyDeleteCoconut is a very important item used in preparing various types of food in our country, Sri Lanka for a time immemorial, and therefore I wish that continuing further research if the Alzeimer's Society do able to make a break successfully, it would be a great achievement for the welfare of all the millions of our poor persons who are suffering from this unpleasant disease. Here comes my Best Wishes for your Ventures in this respect. Shall sign off anticipating successful results.
ReplyDeleteI just know that coconut oil significantly improved my wife's symptoms when we started taking it one year after she was diagnosed and after 7 more years we are still taking it. We stopped it for a couple of weeks about 6 months ago and saw a degradation in symptoms so we started it back and the symptoms improved.
ReplyDeleteThe person in the video mentions that the results of the study will be out in Sept. 2015. However, it looks like the results will not be released until Dec. 2016.

Husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's over 5 years. Put him on Coconut and MCT oil. He takes 9 tablespoons a day. He has not gained any weight and his cholesterol numbers are lower. His Alzheimer's has been pretty stable for the 5 years. He is still considered mild to moderate. Does not forget names, does not get lost, very rarely repeats himself and very rarely needs help with anything. As his doctors say continue to do what you are doing.
